 Abstract:  The Philip Johnston Papers include correspondence, stories and articles written by Johnston, reference files, photographs, and audio recordings and transcripts of oral histories related to Johnston's life as a non-Native American growing up on the Navajo Nation (formerly the Navajo Indian Reservation) in the early 1900s. Topics covered include Johnston's father, Reverend William Riley Johnston, and his missionary activities on the Navajo Nation; Philip Johnston's knowledge of issues pertinent to the Navajo Nation among other Native American communities; Johnston's involvement with the Navajo Code Talkers of World War II; his opinions as to problems with the Glen Canyon Dam (near Page, Arizona); and other topics related to Arizona, Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, and California.

 Abstract:  The Plez Talmadge Reilly Collection consists of personal papers and research notes relating to the history of Grand Canyon, the Colorado Plateau, and Lees Ferry. The collection is extensive and represents a significant contribution to the study of human exploration and settlement of the southern Utah and northern Arizona region. The majority of the collection dates from the late 1930s - 1990s. Items prior to 1930 tend to be copies or transcriptions of diaries and documents. Copies of Mormon diaries and reminiscences, oral interviews, river logs, correspondence with other researchers and friends, and photographs constitute the bulk of this collection.
